Treatment Interventions may include:
Range of Motion
This refers to the joint’s capability to go through a spectrum of movements. Range of motion is referred to as active or passive and can be measured to determine joint stability, soft-tissue elasticity and available motion. Subsequent measurements can be an indicator of response to therapy.
Range of motion therapy has benefits for both joint lesions and soft tissue lesion recovery. This type of therapy can be helpful in the minimizing contracture formation and maintaining the existing soft tissue and joint mobility. It can also help to improve synovial movement and assist with neuromuscular reeducation.
Joint Mobilization
This is a straight lined, manual therapy intervention using passive movement of a skeletal joint. The therapy addresses joint gliding and has the aim of achieving a therapeutic effect on the synovial joint.
Scar Mobilization
This therapy seeks to break up adhesions that may be hindering movement. Surgeries done in the spine and abdomen are most likely to impact stability and movement and require this type of therapy. Therapy will work to reduce inflation and swelling and also will promote healing. Manual manipulation includes:
- Soft tissue mobilization
- Myofascial release
- Dry needling
After scar mobilization we move on to focus on the reactivation of the muscles and their strengthening so you can be restored to stability and mobility. In just a couple sessions you will start seeing improvements from your symptoms of stiffness and pain. Scar mobilization is useful after many types of surgery so ask your primary care provider if this is a good option for you. If you or a family member are struggling with weakness, loss in range of motion or pain after a surgery, contact us, so we can schedule an evaluation today.
Manual Therapy
This is sometimes referred to as manipulative therapy or physical treatment. It is used primarily for the treatment of disability musculoskeletal pain The treatment primarily consists of manipulation such as kneading movements on the muscles and joints to promote joint mobilization.
Therapeutic Modalities
These are used to assist with healing and muscle reeducation. It helps to reduce pain and swelling and can reduce muscle spasms that may be causing pain.
Therapeutic Exercise
This refers to systemic execution of physical activities that are planned for a client to remediate impairments of body function, increase activity and reduce risk of injury, thereby improving well-being and fitness. Therapeutic exercise can include any of the following:
- Agility training
- Coordination exercises
- Breathing exercises
- Developmental activities
- Stretching of the soft tissue
- Endurance exercises
- Power exercises
- Strength exercises
Neuromuscular Re-Education
This entails the retraining or training of muscles, brain and nerves to be more efficient at communicating with each other in an effort to improve balance, function, strength and movement.
Coordination and Agility Training
Coordination, balance and agility go hand in hand. They complement each other and provide a solid foundation for movement, stability and fall prevention. The workouts used in this training all work together to strengthen each facet. You focus on one area at a time but agility exercises affect coordination positively and vice versa.
Sports Rehabilitation
Sports rehabilitation involves evaluating a patient and then developing treatment to prevent and treat in an aim to restore and maintain functional ability and movement. Our sports rehab program also aims to provide performance enhancement for athletes.
